Student Drop-Off / Pick-Up Procedures

Over 450 students arrive at Denison each day either by bus or with their parents by car. In order to make both the arrival and departure routines as safe and orderly as possible, it is terribly important that we have your cooperation with the following guidelines listed below:

Morning Parent Drop Off: 8:30-9:00 a.m.
(8:30 a.m. for breakfast drop off)
(8:40 a.m. for regular school day drop off)

No children should arrive at Denison before 8:30 for breakfast or 8:40 for school.

Parking - Approved Locations:

We will reserve approximately five (5) car lengths directly in front of Denison's main entrance. We mark of this space with the orange cones. This will be our "kiss and go" drop off for parents who drive their children to school. There will be no parking allowed. Additional parking space will be in the loading zone on Colorado Avenue, on the north side of the school building.

If you desire to park your car and enter the school building with your child, please park on the north side of Colorado Avenue. (Please be aware that street sweeping occurs from April through November.) For the safety of all, do not park on Yates Street. Both automobiles and buses are coming and going. The south side of Colorado is available for short term parking in the AM only.

Information from Denver County's Street Maintenance page:

Citywide seasonal street sweeping begins  April 1, 2009, and we need your help to keep Denver clean! Check the red and white signs posted on your block for street sweeping parking restrictions (not every block has restrictions) so that Public Works Street Maintenance can provide the best street sweeping service possible.

Citations for not following the posted parking restrictions on street sweeping days are $25.00. Residential streets in Denver are only swept once per month where posted, so please be sure to SHOW YOUR PRIDE AND MOVE YOUR RIDE according to the signs on your block!

There are two ways to help remember your street sweeping day:

  • Sign up to receive a free email or SMS/text message to remind you of your sweeping day. Visit www.KeepItCleanDenver.org and click on the "Show Your Pride, Move Your Ride" sweeper icon to sign up. Be sure you know what day of the week your sweeping day falls on (for example, "the 3rd Thursday of the month"), so that you can enter it on your reminder sign-up.
  • Call Denver's customer service line, 311, and request "No Parking" sticker reminders for your calendar.

Noon Dismissal is 12:00 PM

We will have spaces along Colorado Ave. and Yates for parents to stop their cars (do not leave your car) while picking up students at the end of the buses.  Teachers will bring your child to your car.

Afternoon Pick Up: 3:45-4:00 p.m.

We will have spaces along Colorado Avenue for parents to stop their cars (do not leave your car) while picking up students at the end of the buses.  This will begin at the no parking sign on Colorado Avenue and continue towards Sheridan Blvd.  Teachers will be waiting with children who are picked up by parents here.  Please do not double park and ask your child to go into the street to get into your vehicle. Once your child enters your car, please drive down Colorado Avenue immediately.  Do not turn right and go on Yates.  This will allow our buses to depart from Yates Street without the extra traffic.

If you desire to park your car when picking up your child, remember to park only on the north side of Colorado Avenue.  Please avoid parking on Yates.  There will be buses parked in front of the school.

Please do not come into the building to pick up your child at the end of their day.  Early pickups do disrupt classroon activities.  We want to provide your child with a full day of learning.  Please do everything possible to schedule appointments so that your child's learning is not interrupted.

If you must pick up your child early, please call before 3:00 or send a note with your child to pre-arrange an "early out".  Park on the north side of Colorado Ave. and come to the office to obtain an early out slip for your child. Please be respectful of the activity going on in the classroom, enter quietly and ask the assistant to bring your child to you. We prefer that you wait outside to meet your child so that the teacher is able to complete the day's activities. We will bring the children to your car or you can meet the teacher on the sidewalk unless there is a need to pick up your child early for an appointment, etc.

If you plan to pick up your child rather than have him or her ride the bus, please send a note with your child or call before 3:00.

Recap:

  • When you park your car, please park in legal locations and do not block driveways.
  • Avoid driving on Yates when buses are present.
  • Do not drop off children in the back of the building. This door will be kept locked for security purposes.
  • Do not turn into the staff parking lot to either drop off or pick up students during these times.
  • Tickets will be issued by DPS Security and Denver Police Department if you are illegally parked.
  • Do not ask teachers to load children in your car if you are double parked in the street.
  • If your child is eligible to ride the bus, please consider using the bus instead of trying to pick up your student at Denison during the congested arrival and dismissal times.

Our available parking is limited.  We understand that you may experience parking challenges during pick up and drop off hours.  Thank you for your cooperation with these procedures.  We appreciate your understanding.  By working together, we will ensure the safety of everyone who comes to Denison Montessori.
